On my last road trip to the West Coast, I decided to take a small detour into Revelstoke. There, I discovered The Modern Bakeshop & Cafe — a busy local hangout with a small-town charm and a menu that provided an alternative to the standard fast food fare located at the side of the highway.
Their coffee was pretty good and you could definitely smell the fragrant dark notes drifting out from the street. For lunch, I ordered the focaccia with bell peppers, pineapple and ham for $6. The flatbread was topped like a Hawaiian pizza but was very savoury. I also tried their Wooley Bully Grille — a fancy grilled cheese sandwich with cheddar, bacon and tomatoes for $6.50. The bread was lightly toasted, soft and freshly baked. The bacon added the right amount of saltiness to the sandwich.
I enjoyed their coffee and food. This bakery provides a good alternative to the fast food that usually accompanies a long road trip.
TLDR: sandwiches and coffee were simple but pretty good
